Lamb

Yared Zeleke / Ethiopia, France, Germany, Norway / 2015 / 94 mins / Amharic with English subtitles / Narrative

“A delicately satisfying drama… deeply sympathetic to its characters and very much attuned to the landscape around them.”
VARIETY

The first Ethiopian film ever in Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival, Lamb is a loving tale of a small boy sent with his beloved pet lamb to live with relations in the country – and discovering a culturally inappropriate talent for cooking. Ethiopian filmmaker Yared Zeleke’s beautifully crafted debut (shot by Josée Deshaies of Saint Laurent) provides an insider view of rural life – portraying a new generation bridling at gender expectations and traditional mores. With the lush backdrop of the fecund Northern Ethiopian hillsides, Lamb paints a nuanced portrait of Ethiopia not often seen by the rest of the world.

This film has been exempt from classification and is restricted to people over 15 years. People under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
